Best electric cars in 2023 introduction

The world is changing, and electric cars are gradually displacing gasoline and diesel vehicles. Electric car sales have now surpassed diesel car sales, and they now account for approximately one in every seven new vehicles registered in the United Kingdom. That’s a lot of progress.

As you know, when buying any vehicle, we must consider many criteria. When buying an electric vehicle, this consideration would be more intense. So, in this blog, we will present the 10 best electric cars we discovered in 2023.

What to look for in an Electric Car

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) come in all shapes and sizes, just like any other fossil-fuel-powered vehicle, and which EV is best for you will depend on several factors, including your average daily mileage, type of driving, where you live, and access to private or public charging points. After all, having an electric car is pointless if it can’t accommodate your usage or the infrastructure isn’t in place to support it.

Here are the 10 Best Electric Cars In 2023

10. Mercedes EQS

The Mercedes EQS is the electric equivalent of the S-Class, as the name suggests. Unlike some EQ-badged cars (such as the EQA, EQB, EQC, and EQV), which share a platform with their internal combustion counterparts, the EQS has a bespoke electric architecture to best package a massive battery for a near 500-mile range while also maximizing interior space.

The performance and range are impressive, as is the extremely comfortable ride. This massive hatchback has plenty of space for people and also serves as a surprisingly effective load hauler. Just be wary of the flashy trims, digital displays, and supple leather that combine to create a truly opulent tech-fest of an interior.

9. Skoda Enyaq

The Skoda Enyaq’s starting price of less than $42,500 seems reasonable for the iV 60 model and bodes well for the upcoming lower-powered models. The Skoda Enyaq iV is friendlier and more luxurious than a Kia e-Niro, and it looks better inside and out than a Volkswagen ID.4—which is great for Skoda and bad for Volkswagen. It’s comfortable and easy to drive and does an excellent job of appealing to as many drivers as possible. Look no further for a practical, roomy family EV.

8. Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 is an excellent addition to the mid-sized EV market. Polestar is a relatively new start-up from Sweden’s Volvo that carries over its sister brand’s Scandi-chic design values and quality but is wrapped in a more progressive, modern vibe. This car ushers in Google’s first Android OS, so there are few buttons (does this sound familiar, Tesla?), and everything is controlled via a touchscreen or the Hey Google voice assistant. Sensible front-wheel drive models have a choice of two battery sizes, with the powerful twin motor only available with the larger pack. It’s also fun to drive with the optional Performance Pack; it’s stylish and well-made.

7. Renault Megane E-Tech Electric

So far, we’ve only driven a pre-production version of the reimagined electric Megane, but the VW ID.3 should be concerned. This front-wheel-drive hatchback has gained plenty of SUV attitude in its transformation, with either 129 bhp and a 186-mile range or 215 bhp and a more useful 292-mile range. It’s fun to drive and has plenty of space inside, so if the price is as low as promised, it’s well worth considering.

6. Tesla Model 3

For a good reason, the Model 3 has become the UK’s most popular electric car. It may be the most affordable Tesla available, but even in entry-level form, few are likely to be disappointed, as the base model boasts a claimed 305-mile range and the ability to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds. It even has the Autopilot drive assistance system, which takes the sting out of long trips while adding to the space-age feel.

The long-range dual-motor version with all-wheel drive and increased range is available; it has a claimed range of 374 miles and a 0–60 mph time of 4.2 seconds. The top-of-the-line Performance reduces that time to 3.1 seconds while increasing the range to 340 miles.

5. MG 4 EV

Until now, MG’s electric cars have been good values, dull but worthy things that have done nothing to improve the brand’s image as a purveyor of Chinese knockoffs. The 4, also known as the Mulan in other markets, is an entirely different kettle of fish. It’s all-new, built on a scalable EV platform, with a range that will include both an extended-range car and a 443-bhp AWD electric hot hatchback, in addition to the current standard and long-range models. It’s fun to drive, the interior isn’t bad, and it’s loaded with features, but the entry-level model is $10,000 less than a VW ID.3, with finance packages that look insanely appealing.

4. BMW i4

Forget the BMW i3, i8, or iX—the BMW i4 takes an entirely different approach to electric power. While it may not appear as innovative as previous BMW I vehicles, it is easily one of the best electric vehicles available in the UK today. There are two i4s to choose from: an eDrive40 with rear-wheel drive, 335 bhp, and a claimed range of 367 miles, or the M40 with 537 bhp twin-motor all-wheel drive and the distinction of being the first all-electric M-car for an extra £12,000.

The same Gen5 BMW electric drive technology is found underneath, though it isn’t wrapped in a part-carbon construction like the iX. Regardless of your choice, many core BMW characteristics are here, including alert steering, excellent ride and handling balance, a clean, well-built, and user-friendly interior, and plenty of power. Regardless, you won’t notice when you’re behind the wheel; stab the accelerator, and the i4 reacts with an instant thrust that makes you think of a computer game.

3. Kia EV6

Kia’s flagship EV6 comes in single-motor two-wheel drive or twin-motor four-wheel drive configurations. Even lesser models handle well, with good performance and a comfortable ride. According to WLTP testing, all regular models have a range of 300 miles or more, while those looking for performance may be interested in the hot 577-bhp EV6 GT. It’s about the same size as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, so there’s plenty of room for passengers to lounge in the front and back. There’s also a large boot, making it an excellent choice for families. It’s also the Parkers’ Large Electric Car of the Year for 2023.

2. Hyundai Ioniq 5

With the Ioniq 5, Hyundai has produced an exceedingly well-rounded electric vehicle dripping in retro-inspired yet futuristic design touches. We’d skip the 58 kWh battery due to its 238-mile range and instead opt for the 72.6 kWh pack with twin-motor four-wheel drive. The range increases to 285 miles, and the 5.2-second 0-62 mph time is significantly faster than the single-motor models. It’s fun to drive in this configuration once you get used to a little body roll, which is easy to accept, given the comfortable ride.

1. Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan is a stunning technological achievement. It excels at what we all enjoy about driving—accelerating, braking, and turning around corners—and has a massive reservoir of capability largely untapped by normal driving. Porsche offers rear-wheel-drive variants that are less expensive than the Turbo, Turbo S, and 4S models.
